How long have you worked as a writer?
I have worked as a professional writer for about 18 years. Prior to that I did some writing and editing assignments for free, in addition to my regular 9-5 (7-3; 3-11, or 11-7!) because I wanted and needed the experience.
Do you specialize in certain industries?
I do a number of government, nonprofit, and wellness and medical projects. I also work with new and experienced authors. I have done a number of projects for the communications industry. Most of my work has been in those areas, but I’m happy to tackle new industries.
Will you work on percentage or royalty basis?
No. I do not work on any type of project for a percentage of royalties only. After 18 years, that proverbial ship has sailed.
What is your hourly rate?
I generally don’t quote an hourly rate, but rather bill by the project. In most cases flat rates work better for you and for me, because it eliminates surprises at the end of a project. When I quote a flat rate, I have already factored in research, interviewing, meetings/conferences, actual writing time, revisions, and rewriting. If it runs over a tiny bit, I absorb that cost, not you. But, if the scope of a project changes (client decides to go in another direction, project requires substantially more time because of client’s multiple revisions, client does not provide all information in the original time allotted, etc.), I will bill you by the hour on top of the flat rate to accommodate your new project direction.
How much do you charge?
I generally charge a flat rate per project, which is calculated on an individual project basis. What a project will cost you depends on a number of factors, including the type of project you are working on, how far along you are in the process, and how soon you need it finished. I can also provide an hourly quote depending on scope and timing of the project. Please contact me for details.
Do you offer book coaching?
Yes, I do. I am a professional coach through Erickson College International, a PCC (Professional Certified Coach) through the ICF (International Coach Federation), and book coaching is one of my niches. I especially enjoy working with Christian authors on a wide range of topics. I can generally work with you from concept of your manuscript topic all the way to production of the book as well as general marketing, press kit development, etc.
Why are your consultations so effective?
I don’t hold anything back when consulting. I don’t do “teaser sessions” with the intent of getting you to commit to future sessions, and then dribble information out a little bit at a time. I give you the best answers and information I can provide during each consultation. Proverbs 3:27 says, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.”
